Joseph Wermes’ career started on the fast track.
As a freshman, he helped guide Fenwick to fifth place in the Class 2A state cross country meet.
That spring, Wermes added another state trip by running a leg in Fenwick’s 4x800-meter relay at the 2A track meet.
His early success raised expectations...
