OTTAWA, KS (KCTV) — Strangers at an Ottawa truck stop helped save the life of a truck driver suffering from a life-threatening injury.
On Monday morning, ambulance crews from Franklin County Emergency Medical Services, fire crews from Ottawa City Fire Department and officers from the Ottawa Police Department responded to Loves Truck Stop at 203 East 27th Street for a report of a medical emergency.
Police say a truck driver from California was injured while on the road and was suffering from severe, life-threatening bleeding.
Police say he was able to make it to the truck stop where another driver from Bones Transportation began to assist him.
According to police, the diver fashioned a makeshift tourniquet and was able to control the bleeding. He then helped the injured man into the store. Inside the store, employees began rendering first aid and helped take care of the man until emergency crews arrived.
The injured driver was taken to an area hospital where he was stabilized.
“We can attest that citizens from our community saved the life of a man tonight. Our citizens did not care this man was from California. They did not care he was a stranger. They saw a person in need. They jumped in and saved his life,” Ottawa police said in a Facebook post.
